How to prepare your photo or signature

Start with the requirements on your application form. Keep the original image so you can try again without losing detail.

1. Choose a clear source image

Use JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 25 MB and 40 megapixels. Choose Photo or Signature, then select or drop an image. A preview appears automatically. HEIC, PDF and SVG are not supported; export them as JPG or PNG first.

2. Enter the required dimensions

Width and height are measured in pixels, not centimetres or DPI. Enter both for an exact output size. Enter only one to preserve the original proportions. Leave both blank to start with the original dimensions. Output is limited to 6,000 pixels per side and 24 megapixels in total.

If dimensions are entered, the tool keeps them exact. It will not silently shrink them to meet the file-size limit.

3. Choose how the image fits

Fit whole image keeps everything visible and adds white padding where the proportions differ. It is usually a useful starting point for a signature. Crop to fill fills the chosen frame and cuts off excess edges. Move the active crop slider to keep the important area in view. A disabled slider means there is no extra image to move along that axis.

4. Set the maximum file size

Select 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB or 200 KB, or enter your own limit. Here, 1 KB means 1,000 bytes. The preview updates automatically and reports the actual byte count. A maximum is a ceiling; the result may be considerably smaller.

If a form also sets a minimum file size, check it yourself. This tool does not add artificial padding to reach a minimum. When exact dimensions and a tiny limit cannot both be met, increase the limit if your form permits it, or choose smaller dimensions if allowed.

5. Optional: use a white portrait background

For people photos, choose Remove background. First use downloads about 37 MB of processing files; those files may be cached by your browser. Processing speed depends on your device. Keep the page open, and use Cancel if needed. The result has a white background and remains a JPG download. Hair, glasses, fine edges and unusual poses may need closer inspection. Use Undo to restore the original background.

This feature is not designed for products, logos or signature cleanup. Background detail is processed at up to 2,400 pixels on the longest side; a larger selected output may therefore contain less detail.

6. Inspect and download

Check the finished preview, dimensions and file size. Download JPG becomes available only when the current settings have a valid result. Check readability and the form’s rules before submitting. PNG transparency becomes white in the JPG output.

Troubleshooting

The preview says “Check settings.”
Use whole-pixel dimensions within the displayed limits and a file-size limit from 1 to 10,000 KB. If the selected size is impossible, change the dimensions or maximum KB.
My photo looks blurry.
Start with a sharper original and avoid enlarging a small image. Increase the file-size limit if the form allows it. Repeatedly compressing an already compressed JPG can lose more detail.
Background removal will not load.
Check your connection and try a smaller portrait or an updated browser. Resizing and compression can still be used without the portrait tool.
Where is my download?
Check your browser’s downloads list or the Files app on your device. On phones, the browser may open a preview or ask where to save the file.
